What is nursing?

The field of nursing is one of the largest and fastest growing areas of healthcare in the country, and includes a number of duties including patient care and administrative tasks. Nurses are responsible for performing basic medical procedures, carrying out diagnostic tests, administering medicines, conducting physiotherapy sessions and generally assisting doctors with various tasks. They are also actively involved in administrative tasks, such as checking patient histories, filing paperwork, maintaining records and processing insurance claims. Additionally, depending on the size of the facility, nurses may also be charged with managing supplies and quality assurance.

 

What degrees can I get at a Nursing school?

A number of nursing programs including degrees and certification courses are offered by nursing schools around the country. Before you enroll at a nursing school, it is important to make sure that it is accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission o n Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The minimum requirement to enroll at a nursing school is a high school diploma or GED, and classes can be taken online or on-campus. Most students enroll in the Associate’s Degree of Nursing (AND) or a Bachelor’s degree with a nursing major (BSN).
